Baku, June 4, AZERTAC
A special session on “The Path to Net Zero: Developing Green Energy Potential of Liberated Territories” was held in Shusha on the sidelines of Baku Energy Week.
In an opening speech to the session, Azerbaijani Energy Minister Parviz Shahbazov said he was proud that this event took place in Shusha, which has once again become the cultural capital of Azerbaijan and is on its way again. of evolution during the year of Choucha.
Emphasizing that the city of Shusha, with all its historical and moral values, is already a symbol of Azerbaijan, the Minister said that it demonstrates to the whole world its determination to revive these territories in a short time as it liberated its lands under the leadership of President Ilham Aliyev in just 44 days.
It was noted that 20 MW power plants have been commissioned as part of a large-scale restoration and construction process in the economic regions of Karabakh and eastern Zangazur. This year, 5 other plants will be commissioned. 19 substations have been built and restored in these areas, including Shusha, and currently 7 new substations are under construction and 8 are expected to be built. The strategic objectives are even greater: “Azerbaijan approaches the reconstruction of these territories in the context of modern challenges related to energy sustainability and support for the solution of the problem of global climate change. The Azerbaijani President’s announcement of Karabakh and eastern Zangezur as a zero-emission green energy zone is an example of advanced development policy.
Stressing that this region is ideal for the implementation of the concept of green energy zone, the minister highlighted the cooperation with bp on the 240 MW solar energy in Jabrayil and that it is expected to attract private investment and foreigners for the construction of 83 MW 18 small hydropower plants and 150 MW rooftop solar systems in the coming years. It was also pointed out that the commissioning of the 140 MW hydropower plants Khudaferin and Maiden Tower, as well as all these new mega-projects will contribute to the green development of the region.
“Shusha, which has been a source of spiritual energy throughout history, is already becoming the center of the green energy zone. Further confirmation of this is the choice of Shusha today as place of signing a cooperation document on 4,000 megawatt wind and solar power projects. Most of these multi-billion dollar investment offers cover our liberated territories. This is a demonstration of the attractiveness of Azerbaijan and this region for investors and a great contribution to our energy system.
